Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! Or, Happy Turkey Day!
I roasted my first turkey SOLO today...well, I only called one friend for advice, searched on the Internet for another question, and IM'd another friend when I could not find the answer. I even deboned MOST of Tom myself! All of the white meat was pristine and yummy...the dark meat was still in legs, bones, wings, etc...I left that job for the wonderful women at church to help me out! All in all, I was very proud of myself! I have come a long way, baby...when I was a new bride I was grossed out by raw meat. I COULD not debone anything! The only meat we ate was hamburger (even touching this made me gag!) and boneless, skinless chicken breasts. After getting as much meat as I could stomach off ol' Tom's bones, I took the entire thing (carcass and all) to church thinking these veteran turkey cookers would be able to get a lot more meat than I, a first timer. However, (they might have just being nice here!) they said I did a good job! I did get a bit of ribbing for tossing out the broth, however. I wasn't thinking about broth, just thinking that all this juice was in my way, so I poured it down the sink....um, OOPS! Lesson learned, SAVE THE BROTH! ;o)

I am so thankful this year...so many, many blessings to be thankful for! I will list just a few...and then I will go to bed (my comfy bed is a blessing to be sure!)
  • My husband...I am so thankful for my partner in life....we were made for each other and I love him SO much!
  • My children...all three of them are such wonderful blessings. They are growing so quickly...I hope to remember just what a great blessing they are to me this year! Andrew has been sick again, his asthma is no fun. But I am thankful that he was more himself today. Wanting to play games and even eat a little. Thank You, God for healing my little guy...continued healing is my prayer. Thusfar, the girls are healthy and I pray they remain so!
  • My parents....they are here to celebrate Thanksgiving with us this year! My dad is doing wonderful! He used his walker and walked up the 2 steps into my home! A TRUE miracle! He says he is getting rid of his wheel chair this year! YEA! My mom is such a wonderful support, mentor, and mother. I truly would not be the person I am today without her (both of them!). I love you both, very much!
  • My church...we have such a wonderful church family who loves us and supports us. We are blessed that God brought us here to serve with these people.
  • My job...I have longed to teach, even while staying home and teaching my own children. I longed to teach in a classroom. I love it. This is one of my passions in life. The directing part, I am still trying to figure out and embrace...but I am thankful that God has provided this opportunity for me to stretch and grow. I just keep reminding myself that growing isn't always easy, or comfortable...but necessary.
  • My God. Where would I be without Him? He is the one who has blessed me so richly, so dearly. And, the most amazing blessing that He has bestowed on me is the gift of forgiveness, faith, and eternal life...THANK YOU, GOD!!! I am so unworthy, and yet He chose to do this for me... I am humbled.
  • My bed...I'm exhausted...I'm sleepy...I'm going to bed. A BIG day tomorrow...did I mention it is Thanksgiving? Our church hosts a HUGE Thanksgiving feast here in our town. Last year we served over 300 people! We take meals to shut-ins, to the county jail, and many people come and get carry-outs to feed their families. We do not charge for this meal. It is a love offering to the people in our community. We do sit out a basket to receive what people would like to give. However, our church does not keep these gifts, they are handed directly over to our community food bank to bless more people. God has so richly blessed our congregation with servant hearts. Thank You, God!
  • Now...off to bed. Nighty night and happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful Thursday

Yes, it is once again Thankful Thursday. I have had one of THOSE days. On THOSE days, I find it even more important to look at the blessings in my life, rather than dwell on what made it such a tough day. So...what am I thankful for? I am thankful
  • that I have this blog, an outlet for the stories about my kids. A way to keep my parents and other far-away family up to date with my kids. A way to make new friends, wonderful Christian women who encourage me from all over the world.
  • that tomorrow is another new day. That tomorrow I will have a girl's night out with some friends.
  • that I have a warm home to protect me from the cold wind.
  • that my kids and husband love me...and that I am blessed enough to love them.
  • that my parents call to say "Hi...we read your blog." Even though they don't COMMENT (come on guys!! :o))
  • that the children are all in bed, and apparently already sleeping!! Thank You God!!! The house is quiet and I have a moment to myself.
  • that everyone at our home is apparently over the yuck that we have had the last few weeks.
  • that even though I didn't get to go to my retreat last weekend (sick kids and a hubby working a wrestling tournament all day Saturday), other women did go, and were blessed. I am thankful that I will get a chance to go next year.
  • that I am getting excited about my new position as director and teacher...I'm really looking forward to teaching again!
  • that I have a comfy bed, which happens to be calling my name....
  • that God loves me and forgives me...even on one of THOSE days!

Blessings to all...

Thankful Thursday

Yes, it is Thursday again! I am so thankful for a great week! Here is a short list of my thankfuls for this week...

  • I am thankful for some beautiful weather...I really think spring is coming!! Yippee!
  • I am thankful for the opportunity to teach again. If you remember last week, I was waiting for a call and trying to make a decision. The call came, and hubby and I prayed and made a decision. I am going to be a preschool director and teacher next year! Thank You God, for letting me go back to teaching. I am trusting that God will show me the perfect place for my little Bethany to spend 3 mornings a week while I teach a younger class, she will join me at preschool for the afternoons.
  • I am thankful for my children, their love, their forgiveness when I'm not the perfect mommy, their laughter, and their hugs.
  • I am thankful for my hubby. He is such a strong support to me. Every morning he asks how far I walked and is so proud of me.
  • I am thankful that I am finally seeing results from my walking almost daily. The scale has started going down, and even better...my pants are all becoming very loose. I am planning on purchasing a belt this weekend...I haven't needed one of these in about 4 years (since I was pg with Bethany!) Yippee!!! Thank You, God for helping me to get up at the early hour and walking. I enjoy spending "quiet" time with God while I walk...I read my Bible. So far in 2008 I have read Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, and I'm almost finished with Judges. Wow...I don't think I've ever read this much of my Bible in such a short time!
  • I am thankful that my childcare moms are supportive of me going back to teaching. They are sad that I won't be caring for their children, but they are happy for me and my new opportunity.
  • I am SO THANKFUL that I get to go to a pastor's wives retreat this weekend. This is my one weekend away from my family...I love them, but having time away is a necessity some times! I am so looking forward to time with other PW's, time in prayer and Bible study. Time to fellowship and worship our God. I am taking my girls with me and dropping them off at my parents house for the weekend. Andrew and hubby are staying home so they can participate in a wrestling tournament. I'm so sad I will miss the tournament, but we have friends who will video his match, so I'll still get to see it.
  • I am thankful that spell check is working again on Blogger...hopefully it will help me out! :o)
  • There is so much more that I am thankful for...breathing, new eyeglasses, sunshine, yummy grapes I got on sale this week, and a million other things that I won't take time to write out right now....I did promise a "short" list!! :o)

Head on over to Iris' to see what others are thankful for! Have a blessed week everyone!

Thankful Thursday

Yes, I know it is Wednesday night, but if I don't do this now, I might not get a chance tomorrow! So...here is what I am thankful for this week.
  • I am thankful for the beautiful weather on Tuesday, made me long for Spring...I am thankful that Spring IS coming! Say it with me now "Spring IS coming!"
  • I am thankful that Mrs. Wonderful (Abbigail's 2nd grade teacher) is able to begin her treatment for her cancer so quickly. We pray for strength and courage. I am thankful that her substitute teacher (for 2 months, then another one to finish the year) is planning special activities for the children to do for Mrs. Wonderful, to help them stay connected...for their emotional well-being, and Mrs. Wonderful's, too.
  • I am thankful that Abbigail feels comfortable enough with me that she can share her fears and worries. She can cry on my shoulder, and laugh with me, too. She is so concerned for her teacher, she cries a lot...we talk about Mrs. Wonderful's faith, and even if her body is not strong enough to fight this cancer, we will see her in heaven. However, she is a young, healthy (besides this cancer) woman, she will fight with all she's worth! The principal came to talk with the children on Tuesday and tell them that Mrs. Wonderful wouldn't be back to school this year. When I picked Abbigail up she came running across the cross walk and threw herself into my arms, crying. My heart breaks for this little girl, but I am thankful that she is sharing her feelings and not bottling them up. I am thankful that Mrs. Wonderful has boldly professed her faith, even in this public school. I am thankful for her example of faith in the face of trials, she is a true inspiration!
  • I am thankful for a great interview on Tuesday. I will find out today (Thursday) if I will be offered a job as the director and a teacher at our local preschool. I miss teaching so much! I pray that God will make it clear if this is what He intends for my life at this point, and if it is what I am supposed to do, that He will clearly show me where Bethany is to spend three mornings a week while the younger class meets.
  • I am thankful for supportive childcare moms. They don't want me to take the preschool position because they want me to care for their children, but they also know my heart and are willing to "share" me with the rest of the community. They have made it a habit lately of telling me how much I am appreciated, and that is always nice to hear.
  • I am thankful for my husband. Although he drives me nuts sometimes, I love him dearly. I am thankful that he loves me...and finds me attractive.
  • I am thankful for my treadmill (thanks hubby!), I am getting great exercise, and I'm so excited that I have actually sped up to a jog a few mornings this week! Woohoo!
  • I am thankful for our wonderful Christian music radio station. It is so wonderful to be able to turn it on and know there will be good music, and nothing to embarrass the kids, or me!
  • I am thankful for Lent. Such a somber time, but a time to prepare for the highest festival...Easter! Thank You, Jesus for what you have done for us, and continue to do for me, daily!
I hope you all have a terrific week! Praise God from whom ALL blessings flow! Say it with me, now..."Spring IS coming!"

Thankful Thursday

I have not participated in TT for a long time. Not that I haven't been thankful, just haven't taken the time to write out my thankfuls...so here are a few things that I am thankful for this week:
  • Safety in the "blizzard" this week. Lots of snow, VERY cold, but we got to stay home and enjoy the warmth of our new furnace! The roads are actually a bit more tricky now, so we are being extra careful. We really had a good snow day, just enjoyed each other.
  • My parents. Dad FINALLY was able to go home from the hospital on Feb. 1. He has gained so much strength and is now as healthy as he can be...praise God! I'm sure having him home again after 7 months in the hospital is quite an adjustment for mom...but a good one I'm sure!
  • My husband. He works so hard to further God's kingdom, and He loves us so much. I am so thankful that he is the head of our home...he's a wonderful husband, father, provider, and friend.
  • I'm thankful for the possibility of teaching next year...(see other posts for more info)
  • I'm thankful that our children are growing and learning the faith. Such a joy to see their love for Jesus, and their understanding of their own personal need for forgiveness...and thankfulness that Jesus did what He did, for them!
  • I'm thankful for my friends. My friend Jacque is going through a very hard time. Her dad had multiple heart attacks and open heart surgeries last week, and is doing very poorly. They do not know if he will pull through, or pass away. I feel so terrible for her, and there is nothing I can do for her except pray and offer to be here for her family while she is away at her father's side. I pray for comfort and peace for the entire family.

I am thankful for so many things, but one of those 'things' is getting out of school soon and I need to get going so I can pick her up! :o)

Blessings-Andie

Thankful Thursday...a BIT early

First of all...yes, I know today is only Wednesday, but I know that tomorrow will be CRAZY, and I want to take time to make this Thankful post...so here it is!!

  1. I am SOOOO thankful that my dad will be moving to the Rehabilitation hospital this week. He has made so much progress. In case don't remember all that's happened with him, here's the shortened story. In January he was put in the hospital with what turned out to be necratizing fascieitus (don't ask me to spell it correctly!! It's the flesh eating bacteria) and had surgery to remove a lot of the tissue on his left leg. He was still healing from this surgery and learning to use his leg again, when in July his back started hurting. It turned out to be a staph infection on his spine. After surgery to remove the infection, he was unable to move his legs for a few weeks! He is again able to move his legs and sit up. He is working on gaining strength each day, and the rehab hospital will help him regain as much use of his legs as possible. Thank You, God for helping him to recover...and bringing strength back to his body.

  2. I'm am thankful for my son, Andrew. Andrew turns 6 years old today (Thursday). I can't believe my big baby boy is THIS old! (He was a BIG baby...9 pounds 2 oz.!!!) He's such a tenderhearted and loving little man. I pray that God continues to mold his heart and help him control his temper. Thank You, God, for the gift of my son. My son! I still get choked up when I say that...I have a son! Thank You God for giving him to me to help raise him. Please help my hubby and I be the best parents we can be for Andrew, and his sisters.

  1. I'm thankful that we get to make a quick trip to visit our far away family. We are making a 15 hour drive to see Warren's little brother who is in the army and will be deployed to the Middle East in a few weeks. Please pray for Nick's safety, and our safety as we travel.

  2. I'm thankful that the weather is getting cooler...didn't seem right that it was the middle of November and we were outside in shorts! Don't get me wrong...I loved the warm weather, but it just didn't seem right! :-)

  3. I'm thankful that my hubby still loves me and finds me attractive after 11 years together, and three kiddos. My body is no where near perfect, but he loves me anyway!

  4. I'm thankful for so many blessings that God gives me each and every day...fresh air, clean water, a warm home, a comfy bed, vehicles that run, opportunities to serve Him, love from many people, grace and forgiveness when I don't follow Him, and of course His unconditional love!

May God bless each of you this week in your thankfulness, and especially next week for Thanksgiving...remember that the most wonderful thing to give thanks for is God Himself!!

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday...I need to get going on the day, but can't start before I give thanks!

Thank You, God for:

  1. continued slow but sure progress in my Father. Everyday he gets a bit stronger. I pray that God continues to sustain both my dad and mom through this exhausting and frustrating time.
  2. bringing Abbigail through her first dental procedure...a cavity fixed with a crown. She's still a bit sore 3 days later, but is healing.
  3. giving me not only my children to love, but also my child care families. I thank You that they all get a long pretty well, and have adjusted to being ith me. Please help baby E to take a bottle so her mom won't worry so.
  4. my extended family...I really miss being a part of their big family gatherings, but thank You that they do still get together, and share their fun with me through emails and such. I pray they had a wonderful time last night getting together to celebrate Grandma and Grandpa's 64th wedding anniversary!
  5. coffee...and sugar free french vanilla creamer!!
  6. my treadmill, which allows me to get in a bit of exercise and time alone before the kiddos wake up! (I even read the Bible while walking, though I MUST hold onto the handrails or I'll fall off! :o))
  7. good Christian music which brings my focus back to You, where it belongs!

for more thankfuls, visit Crystal...we miss you Iris!

Thankful Thursday

THANKFUL THURSDAY!!!! How I've missed you! I just haven't taken the time to post about all my blessings lately, and I have that need. I'm having a very stressful week, so I NEED to take 5 and remember my blessings.

I'm thankful...

  1. That my dad continues to recover, slowly, but recover he does. He is now sitting up in a special chair for 2-3 hours at a time, 3 times a day. He spent about an hour outside this past week, and it's the first time he's been outside (except for moving from one hospital to the next) in almost 3 months. His parents also were able to come visit him in the hospital from their nursing home...it was the first time they've seen him in 4 months.
  2. That everyone in my home is healthy...no asthma difficulties, no ear infections (at this point!). Andrew has hives or something on his face and is going to the doctor this morning, but I'm not too concerned. Just needs something to get rid of the redness/itchiness. He's acting fine.
  3. I'm thankful that our church's Fall Carnival is tomorrow night. Lots of fun for the entire family, games, food...and what gets done for it gets done. It will be fun...and then I can sleep.
  4. I'm thankful for Tuesday evening. We spent the evening at the lake. Fishing, grilling out...and just having some fun family time. I LOVE those times. (I know I promised more "daylight" pictures...but I forgot my camera!)
  5. I'm so thankful for my friend Jacque. I can tell her all my troubles, get them off my chest, and go on with life...she's such a wonderful friend and I don't know how I would live without her. Thank You, God, for giving me Jacque!!!!
  6. I'm thankful for wonderful Christian women bloggers I have gotten to know....funny story...I've been reading Elizabeth and Rebecca's blogs for a while now. I have emailed with them and prayed for them. Well, Rebecca went on a trip this weekend to visit her sister...when I went to her blog to see how her trip went, I recognized Elizabeth's children...they are SISTERS!!!! How small is our world???

I have so much more that I am thankful for...but need to get moving, and get kids to school. Blessings to all of you!

Thankful Thursday

I haven't posted much...ok, at all this week. No reason...just haven't. We've had a good week...I'll post an update later. Now, it's time to start counting those blessings!

  1. My Father's health continues to improve. They are still watching the infection in his spine, and he is again receiving the high powered antibiotics. His movement continues to improve and he does new things daily. This week they have started him on a "tilt-board" so his legs can feel what weight being put on them feels like again. Apparently he got up to a 50 degree angle today for about 20 minutes. This is going to be a very long road to recovery...continued prayers are appreciated. This will be a long road, but he has already come so far! A month ago he couldn't even wiggle his toes, praise God for what he can do now!!!
  2. My husband. He is such a wonderful provider, takes such good care of our family and home. I love him so much!!
  3. My children...each one is special and unique. I love each of them! The girls started/are starting dance this week...such fun! Andrew had an eye doctor appt. yesterday. He's been blinking his eyes really weird and I just wanted to check it out. The eye doctor said he sees fine, he thinks the problem is that Andrew has such beautiful, long eyelashes that they touch in the corners and make his eyes blink from reflex...nothing to worry about, he will grow out of it...boy would I love those eyelashes!!!
  4. Friends...some friends who used to live here in town visited this weekend and we were able to eat lunch with them Sunday afternoon. Such wonderful friends (even though they are old enough to be our parents...surrogate grandparents for our kiddos). We miss them dearly and it was good to spend some time with them. Another friend had a death in her family this week, and has been gone to be with her family. I have missed her so much!
  5. Conferences! Hubby has a church worker's conference this weekend...and the kiddos and I get to tag along. A change of scenery, a stay in a hotel (no cleaning or cooking!!!!) I went to these conferences back before our kids were born when I served as a teacher, so a lot of my old teaching buddies are there...I get to see them and feel a bit more "brainy" than "just a mom"....ok, that doesn't sound the best, but you know what I mean! :o) Being a mom is the hardest and most wonderful job I have ever had, but sometimes my brain feels like it's beginning to turn to mush, so it's good to see old friends who knew me before my brain mushed, and remember that I have many talents and abilities!
  6. God. I'm so thankful that God forgives me each and every time I mess up. He gives me the free gift of forgiveness, there is nothing I could ever do to deserve all He has given me. Thank You, God!!!
  7. I'm thankful for blogging buddies. I first started reading adoption blogs, and have branched into blogs on many topics. One blog that I really enjoy, and have become friends with is adopting a baby from China! Terri has had a very bad couple of weeks, and has so much to do to get ready for her trip towards the end of this month. I'm excited for her!

What are you thankful for this week? Go on over to Iris' to join in the fun, or check out what other's are thankful for!

Thankful Thursday

Today is Thankful Thursday...but did you also know...

This is my 100th post!!!!

There is so much to be thankful for today...and every day!

  1. I am thankful that my father continues to improve. He is now wiggling his toes, and even his foot. He can roll his ankle, and even push like he is pushing the accelerator of a car! He can flex his thigh muscles, but not really move them, YET! After having no voluntary movement for 6 weeks, this is a miracle! THANK YOU GOD!!!
  2. I am thankful that this movement has given him and my mom a new bout of energy and hope that they were lacking before.
  3. I am thankful that my husband is taking time for himself, even amidst the stress and business of pastoring two churches. I am thankful that he is taking care of himself so that he can care for so many.
  4. I am thankful for the families I provide childcare for...such wonderful, loving families. I am thankful for the extra income it provides for our family. I am thankful that all the children are adjusting well. I can't wait for the new baby to start coming to me!! (she was born 4 weeks ago...I don't get her till mid-October).
  5. I am thankful that my children are all healthy at this time. Andrew still has a bit of a cough, but it's so much better. Bethany still has that 'thing' on her eye, but it is not bugging her.
  6. I am thankful that I have been able to get up to work-out three mornings this week. I'm even thankful for the sore muscles...it means that I'm working them and they are doing what they are supposed to!
  7. I'm thankful for cooler weather (at least in the evenings!).
  8. I'm thankful for my sewing machine! It is so much fun to create things...I feel such a sense of accomplishment! I finished a quilt top last night, and started it's twin this morning. My girls are going to have such fun quilts for Christmas!!!
  9. I'm thankful for blogging...the fun, friendships, and connections with my family that it has brought to my life...I'm thankful for every single one of my readers!
  10. I'm thankful for God's grace and forgiveness...I depend on these constantly!!!

That is a short list of the MANY blessings I have been granted this week. What are you thankful for? To read other people's lists, head on over to Sting my Heart.

Thankful Thursday...as usual there are so many things to be thankful for this week...let me list just a few:

  1. My dad is doing even better. He still doesn't have any movement to speak of below the waste, but he is now working with a pain management team, and they think they have found the combination of drugs to help him deal with the pain so he can begin doing therapy again. Hopefully getting him moving will help his back to heal and get his movement in his legs back. I thank God that He has been faithful and been there when my parents needed Him most. I praise God for bringing my dad through two life threatening infections this year, and I pray that God continues to heal my father's body.
  2. I am thankful that H has had two great days here at my home this week. No more crying, just plays happily. This will make the transition back to mom working full time after her maternity leave much easier. Thank You God!!!
  3. I'm thankful for my silly kids. I'm sorry for being short tempered and impatient this week. I DO LOVE YOU! I'm sorry I'm not the perfect mom...I'm going to try to be more patient and understanding this week.
  4. I'm thankful for safe travel for my hubby. He has been back and forth to the vacancy congregation 4 times this week...1 1/2 hours away. There was a death, planning the funeral with the family, and now the funeral. I pray God comforts the family, and brings my hubby safely home this evening.
  5. I'm thankful for the vacancy congregation...the little bit of extra income will come in handy now since our air conditioner died this week. I'm thankful it made it through the hottest part of the summer, and that we will be able to have it replaced before next summer.
  6. I'm thankful for God's mercy and grace...need I say more??
  7. I'm thankful for my friends who love me no matter my moods. They even love me through my cranky/impatient days. Thanks!!!
  8. I'm thankful that Christmas is coming...not for a long time, but it's coming! I love celebrating Jesus' birth...and all that goes with it! I love planning and decorating, and I'm starting my list already! I need to get the Children's Christmas program ordered!
  9. I'm thankful my sewing machine is working again!!! I've felt very creative this week making 5 baby slings and working on a quilt for one of my girls.
  10. I'm thankful for all my blogger buddies...everyone who reads my rambling.

If you want to read more thankful lists, head on over to Sting my Heart and see what others are thankful for this week.

Thankful Thursday

Yes, it's Thankful Thursday. I'm a bit late in getting this post done, I usually try to do the TT post in the morning, but I just kept putting it off. Nothing is wrong, dad is improving...just feeling out of sorts today. Anyway...there is MUCH to be thankful for today.
  1. Dad is still in the hospital, but doing much better. He is feeling everything (above the waist and below), and we think he is beginning to have some movement in his legs/feet. Involuntary movement is a sure thing, voluntary is still questionable. Medically he is doing pretty well, blood-pressure, O2 levels are good, morphine is off. He is still receiving the antibiotics, and will be for some time. There is some question as to what his future holds. He does not qualify for the rehabilitation hospital, because he has no meaningful movement, YET! They are discussing the possibility of a long term skilled nursing facility, or making some changes so that he will be able to go home (current home with changes, or a new/different home that is already handicap accessible). Please continue to keep my Mom and Dad in your prayers. Things are looking better this week, but so much is still unknown.
  2. I am thankful that I was able to go see them this weekend. My aunts kept saying how much of a difference they could see in both mom and dad because I was there. I pray they are right. I hope I could help. My parents are one of the greatest gifts that God gave to me, and I love them SOOO much! I'm thankful for them!
  3. I'm thankful that my husband and older children survived without me! :-)
  4. I'm thankful that the weather is supposed to cool down this week.
  5. I'm thankful the High School in our town is doing a wonderful family musical this fall, "The Sound of Music" Abbigail auditioned for two parts last night and was wonderful. I pray they find the right children to play the parts.
  6. I'm thankful for baby slings. I love them! I'm thankful that my sewing machine is in working order once again so I can make them again...and in this way encourage other mothers/caregivers to "wear" their babies and make their lives more simple, and wonderful!
  7. I'm thankful that I've had two days with just Bethany while the older two are in school. I even had 2 hours this morning when she was at preschool that I had no one to care for. I love my children, but a moment to myself was wonderful...I washed and vacuumed out my van...it REALLY needed it!
  8. I'm thankful for clean, clear, cold water to drink.
  9. I'm thankful that God is faithful, and loves me...even when I don't put Him in the forefront of my life.
  10. I'm thankful that my cousin took the time out of her busy day to call and tell me she had visited my dad, and that he is acting like himself again...teasing and joking around. Knowing that my extended family continues to care for my parents is wonderful, and the fact that she took the time to not only leave a comment on my blog to tell me how he's doing, but to also call and tell me means so much to me. Thanks Michelle!
  11. I'm thankful that PMS doesn't last very long (hopefully) and I will be back to myself in a day or two.

Blessings to you all! Go to Iris' to read more TT posts.

It's Thursday...Thankful Thursday. I am thankful for many blessings, but right now my heart is heavy. My dad's health has taken a drastic turn for the worse this week. I'm scared, I'm sad, but I am trying to remember that God loves all of us, and He will see us through. I'm leaving my husband and two of my children today, so that my youngest and I can travel to Wichita to spend the weekend with my brother's family...and see my parents. I am thankful...

  1. that my schedule allows for this trip. That finances at the end of the month allow for this trip. That hubby is very encouraging of this trip, even though he can't take time off. That my brother is opening his home to me and Bethany. That the rest of my family in Wichita has offered to help with Bethany so I can be there for my mom and dad.
  2. I'm thankful that my mom has left the hospital and slept in her own bed for 3 nights in a row...one perk of having Dad in the SICU is that Mom is not allowed to stay.
  3. I'm thankful for my aunts and uncles and cousins in Wichita who have been there for my parents this week.
  4. I'm thankful that the doctors have narrowed down the infection so that they can give a very specific antibiotic to hopefully get rid of the staph infection in Dad's spine.

Now on to other thankfuls...

  1. I'm thankful for the 5 teens who spent the evening at our home last night. They are a wonderful group of "kids" who love God, and are becoming a very fun youth group. They are all very loving towards my kiddos. Watching all of them dance to the Wii dance game, was HILARIOUS!! Thanks, guys, for making me laugh. (If anyone puts the video of ME doing the dance on youtube...well, I know where you live!!!) :-)
  2. I'm thankful for our church family who has kept me and my family in constant prayer this week. The calls to 'just see how things are going' have been comforting, although I tend to cry every time someone asks...it's nice to know people care!
  3. I'm thankful for my childcare families. They have been so understanding, offering to take time off so that I can go to my family. It's such a blessing to work with such caring families.
  4. I'm thankful that H had a good day with me on Tuesday. He's getting used to spending time with me again, which will be really good once his mommy goes back to work after her maternity leave!

I'm thankful for many things...I pray that God will provide safe travel and returned health to my Dad. If you have a moment, please pray for him. If you want to know what's going on, you can read more of the story here and here.

Thank you, Iris, for hosting TT, and helping us to stop and remember the blessings God has given to us. If you would like to see what other's are thankful for, hop on over to Sting My Heart and see for yourself! :-)

Thankful Thursday...What am I thankful for this week? Lots of things! For starters, I'm thankful

  1. that my children have started school, and seem to be having fun. Andrew is nervous about going to Kindergarten all day, which he does today for the first time...but I know he will have fun if he just lets himself!
  2. that Bethany's eye thing turned out to be nothing serious, and that it is healing already. If you don't know what's going on with her eye, see my previous posts here and here.
  3. that the doctors are continuing to try different means of controlling my father's pain. Medication can only do so much...and he is taking too much of it! Please pray for him if you get a chance.
  4. for the other pastors in the area, and their families. We had a pastor & family gathering on Monday evening. I only get to see these wonderful people a couple of times a year. It's so fun to get together and share what's going on in our lives with people who completely understand the unique position of a pastor and his wife (and kids). One of the pastors in our area is leaving, and my hubby will be helping out his congregation as their vacancy pastor until they decide what to do next (a very small congregation). Please pray for the pastor that is leaving, that God will direct his steps. Please pray for the congregation, that they will not loose heart, and that they will follow the Father's will. Please pray for my hubby, two churches is A LOT to take on. He has two funerals this week in our church alone, on top of the regular stuff. Please pray for endurance, courage, and discernment.
  5. that we have a roof over our head, AC that works (although it's ancient, it still runs), food on our table and in our fridge, cars that run, and many other blessings that I take for granted every single day.
  6. that the new principal at Abbie & Andrew's school seems to be a loving and concerned woman. Her daughter is in Abbie's class. She greets the kids as they get out of the car in the 'drop-off' lane. I hope to get to know her better!
  7. that Andrew didn't cry today when I dropped him and Abbie off...like I said, he's pretty nervous about this all-day thing.
  8. for cooler nights/mornings when we can open up the house and get some fresh air!
  9. that I have lost 7 pounds!! YIPPEE!!! I'm thankful for the Fit 4 Life Fridays Challenge. Check it out at Deedra's if you are curious!
  10. I've been reading the book of Jeremiah...I'm thankful that even though God punished the Israelites, He used that punishment to bring them back to Himself. Every time it was telling about a punishment (enslavement, banishment, death of the evil people) the section would end with "God will return you to your land" (or something like that....God always restores us to Himself...Praise Him!)

This is just a short list of my thankfuls for today...I think I could go on and on! :-) God has so blessed me, I love making myself take the time to think about the blessings. Thanks Iris for encouraging our hearts! Check out Iris's site for more Thankful Thursday listings!

Blessings to all-Andie

Thankful Thursday

Ok...I know it's not Thursday, I'm a little slow on the get-go this week. I'm really trying to get back into the routine of things, but it's taking a bit. Forgive my tardiness...but I could not let a week go by without sharing what the Lord has blessed me with this week.

  1. ELLA LYN FRANK...H's little sister was born yesterday! She's a beautiful 8 pound baby girl. Mommy and daughter are doing wonderfully! Yesterday must have been BABY DAY in this town...my neighbor (2 doors down) had twin girls yesterday, also. Tressa and Reese are a few weeks early, but still a healthy 5 pounds each! I'm so thankful the Lord brought these girls to their families safe and sound.
  2. My dad is out of the "big" hospital, he's now gaining strength at the Rehabilitation hospital in his town. They make him work really hard, so he's in more pain...but it's all for his good. They are helping him regain strength that he lost during his month long injury. Hopefully he'll be there two to three weeks, and then be able to return home.
  3. I'm thankful for my children's teachers for this school year. Abbigail's teacher, Mrs. Williams, I don't know...but have heard that she's wonderful! I can't wait to meet her! Andrew will have Mrs. Baker who I know to be a wonderfully caring and loving teacher. I can't wait to see him blossom into a reader! He read something on the TV yesterday that just blew my mind. I didn't know he knew how to read "Curious George"...and it wasn't an advertisement, it was the menu listing, so there were no clues from pictures or fonts...WOW!!! Bethany will have Mrs. Pruit for 3 year-old preschool. Mrs. Pruit has two daughters, one in Abbigail's grade. So I know her. They will all have a wonderful year! I pray God gives these women patience, love, creativity, and strength to lead the children this year. I pray God gives them fulfillment in their careers and joy!
  4. I'm thankful that R & L (my two new childcare children) have adjusted so wonderfully! L cries for about 10 seconds when his mommy leaves, and that's it! They play nicely, and give me hugs. Their mom and dad are wonderful Christian parents who teach their children Godly virtues. Thank You, God for bringing this family to me.
  5. I'm thankful for the Fit 4 Life challenge (I'll post for that next!) I feel better, and am proud of myself!
  6. I'm thankful for my loving husband. He loves all of us, and even gives the kiddos I watch love. He's so wonderful with children!
  7. I'm thankful that my children are doing well with the transition of having more children in our home again. It's hard to share not only your home, but your toys and your mommy as well. They have had tough moments this week, but they are doing great! I'm so proud of them.
  8. I'm thankful that the triple digit temps are gone for now. I never thought of 96 as a "cool" high...but after 10 days of 105, 96 sounds almost frigid! :-)
  9. I'm so thankful for God's faithfulness and love. I've been reading the book of Jeremiah. God's people were rebellious and forgot all the wonderful things He had done for them. However, He was faithful to them. He punished them (as a loving parent punishes his or her children...to bring them back to safety and love). But He always came to their rescue. I am thankful that He loves me and promises NEVER to leave me. No matter how many times I loose my way, or don't follow Him. He always brings me back to Himself with loving tenderness, and forgives my mistakes and give me a new start. Thank You, Father for your faithfulness, love, and forgiveness.

Thankful Thursday

YIPPEE!!! It's Thankful Thursday. So much to be thankful for! Here goes...I'm thankful for...

  1. A busy, but fun week. Have you noticed I haven't had much time this week for blogging. Not only have I been limiting my time as a part of my Fit 4 Life Challenge, I have just been too busy! The kiddos and I went to the HUGE pool in Garden City on Tuesday. It's so big they have life guard stations in the middle of the pool. The life guards have to swim/wade to the chair. There is also a kiddie section with a little slide, fountains, and fun lily pad type things to climb on. We had a blast, but I forgot my camera!
  2. My new childcare families. I had all the kiddos here yesterday while the moms had an in service. It's going to be crazy, but fun. While Abbigail and Andrew are in school, I will have Bethany (my dd, 3 yo), R (girl, 3 yo), L (boy 1 yo), H (boy, 1yo) and H's baby brother or sister (to be born any day now!) I always wanted twins, now through my childcare, I will have two sets of "virtual" twins! :-) It's going to be so much fun!!!
  3. That my dad is still in the hospital where he can receive the care he needs. He is so weak. He has been given a spinal block to block the pain in his back. But being bed ridden for almost a month has zapped almost all of his strength. He is now getting some physical therapy to hopefully gain strength so he can be moved to a rehabilitation hospital, for more strength training. Please pray for my parents patience and courage in the face of this difficult and draining time.
  4. That while the predator on the loose in my town has not been caught, he has not harmed anyone...just property. A family in our church was broken into yesterday, but no one was home (Thank You, God). The teenage son had just left for band practice, and 15 minutes later the 13 yo daughter came home with some children she was babysitting...and her house was a wreck. She was able to call the children's father who came to her rescue, and then called the police. The police might be able to get fingerprints off the doorknob. Her parents were both out of town for the day. Thank You, God for protecting the family!!! Stuff (like windows) can be replaced, but Krista and Aaron cannot!!!
  5. For Air conditioning. The high this week is at least 100 every day...THANK YOU GOD FOR AC!!!!
  6. For a FUN evening last night. Hubby, the kiddos and I, all got on our swimming suits and went outside for fun! We stayed cool and had a blast...again, camera was inside...I guess it was safer that way, it surely would have been soaked!!!
  7. For my kiddos. They fight and argue, but they really do love each other. We have a lot of fun together. They are truly my 3 blessings!
  8. For my hubby, who is home from his trip!!!! He had a great time, but is still exhausted a week later. 9 days with teenagers will do that to a person!!! :-) He loves me no matter what and takes good care of us.
  9. For God's never ending love and grace. He is so wonderful!!! Where would I be without Him...NOWHERE! He gives me strength I need daily. He forgives me every time. He loves me unconditionally, not because of something I have done, but because He created me, and loves me!

Well, that's a list of some of the things I am thankful for today. Hop on over to Iris's to see what others are thankful for today! :-)

Thankful Thursday

It's Thursday...my FAVORITE DAY....especially this week! My biggest and best thankful for today is HUBBY IS COMING HOME TODAY!!! He's been gone for about 9 days and I (and the kiddos) miss him SOOO much!

Here are some of the other things I am thankful for this week:

  1. God's protection, it's been a scary week around here, but we are safe. There have been a number of break-ins in our town (I mentioned it last week), and they continue. A house just kitty-corner from me was broken into yesterday. I didn't sleep much last night. But I had a golf club in bed with me and the phone under my pillow, and the house locked up tighter than Ft. Knox. However, I know that the club, phone, and locks are not what kept me safe...it was God. Thank you God!
  2. For friends that love me and understand my feelings. One friend invited the kiddos and I to spend the night last night at her home because she knew I would be worried home alone. I declined, but looking back, it would have been fun! And I probably would have slept more!
  3. That Hubby and the kids were safe and had a great time at the National Youth Gathering. Hubby got to see friends from college, camp, and seminary days. What a blessing! I so wish I could have seen them, too! Hopefully he got email addresses!!!!
  4. That God chose ME to be one of His children. That He loves me enough to die for MY sins. That even if I were the only sinner on earth, He would have went to the cross...for ME! Thank You, JESUS!
  5. That my dad is finally in the hospital where he can get adequate pain management, and hopefully they will find out what is wrong with his back.
  6. I am thankful for the life of Evelyn. A friend of my mom's who was known for doing good deeds and loving EVERYONE. Apparently she did a good thing, for the wrong person this week, and was murdered. A very sad thing...but we have HOPE!! She knew her Saviour. She knew Jesus loved her and died for her. She knew she was forgiven, and where she will spend eternity. She was a very giving person and is now praising God with all the heavenly hosts. Thank You, God for her example of selfless, giving love. Please give her friends and family comfort, peace, and hope at this difficult time.
  7. For my pillow, I'm going to try to get in a nap before hubby gets home. This girlie can't make it on the 3-4 hours of sleep I got last night.
  8. That Hubby is on the ground! He just called and they are leaving the airport, and driving home...the airport is 4 hours away (yes, we live in the middle of NOWHERE!)
  9. That the kids and I had a great time visiting my family in Wichita. My dad was in pain, and didn't get out of bed...but we still enjoyed spending time with him. The kiddos loved playing with their cousins, Ella & Ava...and I enjoyed spending time with my mom, dad, brother, and great sis-in-law. We even went to visit my grandparents in the nursing home. Grandpa was pretty tired, but Grandma was unusually aware. It was a good day!

I could go on and on, but if I want to get in a nap, I have stuff to do to get ready for hubby's homecoming!

Blessings to all on the week ahead!

Thankful Thursday

OKOKOK...I know it's not quite Thursday, YET, but I have a lot to be thankful for! Here goes: I'm thankful:
  1. Hubby and the youth made it safely to Orlando!
  2. My head feels tons lighter! Look here to find out why.
  3. My buddy Jacque (and her family) have sold their home, purchased a new one, and are moving as I type...yes, even late Wed evening! They are so excited about their "new" home, and I am, too!
  4. My parents are welcoming the kiddos and I to come visit for a few days.
  5. My dad seems to be feeling a bit better than last week! Slow but steady wins the race!!
  6. My washing machine...it seems to be running quite often, I'm so thankful that I have one here at home and don't have to lug things to the laundry mat.
  7. My kiddos love me, even when I loose my patience with them.
  8. That each of my children have a tender heart, and love unconditionally.
  9. That Hubby is such a great daddy (and husband!)...we all miss him terribly and he hasn't even been gone for 24 hours!
  10. That God listens to prayers, even rambling ones from a woman home alone, and a bit nervous. (I hate being home alone with the kids at night...especially now, there have been some break-ins in our town...God, please keep us safe!)
  11. For my silly cat...he's just such a goof! He makes me smile!
  12. For forgiveness. I'm so thankful that Jesus died on the cross and gives me complete forgiveness whenever I don't follow Him. I would be completely hopeless without Him!

Well, that's a bit of what I'm thankful for right now...Oh, add a comfy bed to that list...I'm going to go hop in there soon! I pray God blesses each and every one of you in your journey to serve Him!

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday...what a week to be thankful! Warning...my list may be long. I'm thankful...

  2. that they were not evacuated.
  3. that EMS was still able to come and help get my dad to the hospital with his hurting back.
  4. that the back problem turned out to be just muscular, and not skeletal.
  5. that they are safe at home with some great pain killers and muscle relaxers for dad.
  6. that my hubby is so sweet!
  7. that VBS has gone wonderfully, 38 children have heard about Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. 38 is awesome considering we have usually around 10 in Sunday School!
  8. that VBS is almost over! (It's a great week, but exhausting!)
  9. that we have clothes on our backs (and in our closets), food in the pantry & refrigerator, a home to shelter us, comfy beds to sleep on, cars to get us to and fro, gas to go in those cars, and so much more than we need.
  10. that I have great friends who help me get ready for VBS. I couldn't get ready every day without you Stephanie & Shannon! Thanks girls!!!
  11. that the forecast is calling for a chance of rain, we need it!
  12. that my cat is finally showing some kindness towards my children. (He was my baby for 3 years before we had Abbigail...it's taken 7 years for him to get over it! :o))
  13. that I have a bit of a break this afternoon...I think I'm going to go lay down on some ice and see if I can get my back to loosen up!
  14. that God shows me His mercies new every morning, noon, and night...I need them CONSTANTLY!
  15. that God has given me so many gifts, and continues to bless me.
  16. that my birthday is Saturday, I know I will at least get out of cooking one meal that day!
  17. that my parents are not going out of town like planned next week, so the kiddos and I are going to go see them!
  18. that Abbigail has an eye doctor appointment on Monday, hopefully this is the cause of her headaches.
  19. that Andrew has learned how to whistle...really, I'm thankful....at least I'm trying to be ;o)
  20. that Bethany is so darn cute...with her attitude sometimes it's a good thing! I love how she says "drink" She says "wink" instead...how cute!!! I love it when she starts singing praise songs out of the blue (her version of course!)

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday!!! I'm so much more thankful this week than I was last week. So...here's a list of some of the things I am thankful for this week!

1. My Nebulizer! Wheat harvest here is making my asthma act up more than it EVER has before...if not for my nebulizer, I think I would be at the hospital. Although the medication makes me a bit shaky, I can breath, and THAT is something to be thankful for!

2. My Hubby! He is such a wonderful husband, provider, protector, friend....I don't tell him how much I appreciate him nearly enough. He really is great! Thank you God for giving me such a wonderful man as my husband. Please help me to show him how much I love and appreciate him.

3. Vacation!! We leave this weekend to go visit my hubby's family in North Dakota...I don't think they start harvest for at least a few weeks, and maybe they will be done here when we return! Now that would be GREAT! We are so excited to see family again. We live so far away from them that we only get to visit once a year, so we can't wait to see how the cousins have grown...and the new baby cousin! Grandma...here we come!

4. My children! They are such joys. They play well together (don't get me wrong, they fight to beat the band some days, but they really do entertain each other often!). They are learning unconditional love, forgiveness, and faith in God. I'm so thankful for them! Their hugs, kisses, tickles, giggles, and smiles. I love them...thank you God!

5. Christian Radio...just love the Christian music and programming. It's nice to be able to turn on the radio and not worry about what my kiddos are going to hear.

6. VBS...and VBS volunteers! It's all coming together! Thank You, God, for moving people to help. Please help us to do your work and spread your love. Please send the children and parents who need to know about you, and help us to show them your love.

7. "Cheap" gas...it's down to $2.89 which is down from a few weeks ago of $3.15...just in time for a road trip!

8. Cool nights and mornings that allow us to turn off the AC (save a little $$) and enjoy the fresh air.

Well, I could go on and on, but that dear hubby is outside in the nice cool morning air mowing the grass. I would like to have a yummy breakfast waiting for him when he comes in. Blessings to you all!
