MIA

I'm going to be MIA for a few days. I have been talking about doing a garage sale for oh...about 10 years. Well, I'm going to do it this weekend! My friend who lives in the country is having a garage sale at her mother-in-law's home which is only two doors down from me. So...I'm going through all my "baby" stuff and kids' clothing right now to add to her garage sale. I've decided I'm going to sell all my baby stuff, except my crib and pack-n-play...the pack-n-play is practical to have around for company, and the crib is the FIRST baby thing we purchased when I was pregnant with Abbigail, after 3 years of infertility...it's a sentimental thing! :o) It's A LOT of stuff, so it's going to take me ALL of the next couple of days to get the stuff sorted and priced. I'll be back after the garage sale, and after I recover! :o)

Hope everyone has a wonderful week...see ya on the flip side!

Menu Plan Monday

Well, this week I'm going to try to add my breakfast's and lunches as well...here are the options this week!

Breakfasts: Cereal, Toast, Bagels, Muffins one day (hopefully) (the kiddos either drink milk or apple juice with their choice of breakfast)

Lunch: Mac-n-cheese, peanut butter/jelly sandwiches, hot dogs/cheese and fruit, quesadillia's, left-overs (I serve milk and fruit nearly every day with lunch to help on the nutritional side!)

Suppers:
Monday: Pork chops and tortellini
Tuesday: Sloppy Joes
Wednesday: Hubby has LYF, so the kids and I are on our own
Thursday: Pizza pockets or homemade pizza
Friday: Spaghetti and ooey gooey cheesy bread

One of these days I just might get fancy on you and do a casserole or something! :o)

Christmas Shopping!!!! (and feeling better)

I did some GREAT Christmas shopping last night! Can you believe it? It's only April...and I already have a HUGE start on Christmas. Since we are planning our Disney trip just after Christmas, we told the kids already that we won't be having the "BIG" Christmas gifts like we did last year. We explained that the trip is a major part of our family Christmas gift. However...since I am a woman obsessed (right now) with all things Disney....I was on the Disney store website. I started looking at their "outlet" and got excited. All their coats are on clearance. I got 4 things for each of the kiddos....1)a coat, 2)a T-shirt 3)flip-flops and 4)sunglasses. Yes, flip-flops and sunglasses are a weird Christmas gift, but we are going to Florida just a week and a few days after Christmas, so they are VERY fitting! With the clearance and a special of 25% off their new summer merchandise, my total was less than $90, and that was including shipping! The girls' stuff is all princess themes, while Andrew's stuff is either Cars or Buzz Lightyear themed. I'm so excited for the stuff to get here!
Thank you all for your prayers for my little girls and their ears. I believe they are all feeling better. Abbie was NOT looking forward to her second shot, so that was no fun. She was in pain all evening and was pretty sore all weekend. She'll be fine, but now does NOT want to go back to the doctor for fear of shots. Oh well...I don't like shots either!

Ears and needles....

Turns out that Bethany isn't the only one with ear problems. Last night just as I was getting ready for bed (kiddos had been in bed for about 1 1/2 hours and Hubby wasn't home yet from a meeting), Abbigail came out crying. She doesn't cry all that often, so I was surprised. She said her ears (yes, earS) hurt. Hurt BAD. We used the pain drops that the doctor gave us for Bethany, I gave her tylenol, but she was still crying and rubbing her ears. I laid her down in my bed with the heating pad, I laid down with her and rubbed her back. She did seem to calm down and I started dozing off. Every time I was close to dreamland, she would start sobbing again. Poor girl was miserable. Around 11:30 or so she said that she heard popping, and her ear didn't hurt so bad anymore. She said she couldn't hear very well. I was up most of the night with either her crying about her ears, or Bethany crying because she was lonely. Finally around 3:30 I ventured out to the livingroom and camped out on the couch. Finally, sleep....for a little bit. Bethany found me!
This morning I called the doctor to get Abbie in, I just KNEW her ear drum had burst. Hubby was able to take her since I had a bunch of extra kids. She called with his cell phone from the doctors crying "I have to get a shot!" Now, Daddy is always teasing them that they are going to have to get a shot, so I thought that he was playing a cruel trick. He wasn't. Her ear drum had not burst yet, but it was VERY inflamed and swollen. They gave her a shot of antibiotics and she has to go back tomorrow afternoon to get checked again and have another shot. Poor girl couldn't even lay down to rest this afternoon because her "tushie" hurts. After tomorrow's shot she won't even be able to sit down. She is acting like she feels a lot better, but her ear is still pretty plugged and hurts if you ask her.
Andrew was pretty proud of himself that he was the only one going to school today. "I'm healthy, I'm all better!" he kept saying. So cute.
Hope everyone in your neck of the woods is feeling "above" the weather!

Meme...about me!

There is an interesting MEME going around. It is just a bunch of questions that help us in bloggy land get to know each other better. I haven't actually been tagged, but most of the ladies who have answered say "Go ahead and answer if you want." So...I'm answering. I think it's fun to get to know a little bit more about each other. So...if you've got time to read, here it is!

How many times a week do you cook and eat out? I cook most nights, we might just do sandwiches if time is short. We usually go out only one night a week...some weeks we don't go out at all.

What is your families' favorite dinner? Everyone loves Calzones...or Pizza Pockets as we call them. Everyone gets to pick what they want inside their own pockets. I make the kiddos pockets smaller and Hubby's and I's pockets bigger...just yummy!
Do you have a fast and easy recipe that you use frequently? Anything quick and easy...spaghetti, tacos, sloppy joes, etc. A lot of things I make a big batch (sloppy joes, taco meat, etc) and freeze extra so on nights we are REALLY short on time I can just grab it out of the freezer and throw it in the microwave...dinner on the table in 5 minutes!
What kind of snacks and drinks do you keep on hand? We always have fruit, apples, oranges, grapes, bananas, and strawberries are REALLY GOOD right now! Crackers are another favorite. The kids drink either water or milk most of the time, but get apple juice or the occasional pop as a treat. Of course I have chocolate on hand at ALL times, and hubby likes to drink diet pop quite often.
How do you break up housework? When do you get it done? Housework? What's that? Truly and honestly I don't spend near enough time in this area. I'm trying to teach my kids that if they help, it all gets done much quicker and without one person having to do it! I do at least one load of laundry a day, and my goal is to have it put away, too. Each child is assigned a different chore each day, but our routine also calls for tidying the living room, dining room, and their bedrooms each evening before bedtime. Does it happen each day? No, but we try. My goal is to have the kitchen cleaned up each night before I go to bed because I HATE to wake up to a messy kitchen, I feel behind before I even get started. Do I accomplish this all the time? No, but it is a goal.
Do you have any tips for getting it done faster/easier? Do it NOW. If I keep saying "I need to..." or "I'm going to..." it just doesn't get done. So, do it now! Not later. I really need to listen to this great advice!
Do you have a bedtime routine? Yes. About 7:30 we start "jammie time" The kids are all supposed to go get their jammies on, and pick up their rooms (toys and books put away, dirty clothes in the basket, etc). When they finish this they come help tidy the living room. During this time they also make sure their back packs are ready for morning. Chores are supposed to be done before supper, or soon thereafter, but sometimes they get put off till almost bedtime. Brush teeth by 7:50, and pray as a family. When we are finished praying they give Daddy kisses and hugs and I take them to bed, pick out the next day's clothing, kisses and hugs, tuck them in. The girls share a room and Andrew has his own room. They each listen to a lullaby CD as they go to sleep. Abbie has a new privilege...she is allowed to lay in bed and read until 8:30 since it is still light outside, and she has no trouble getting up in the morning. Andrew might have to move his bedtime up to 7:30 because he's still having lots of problems getting up in the morning. He's just not a morning person!
What is a typical day like for you? I mean a break down time wise. When to rise, when to bed, and other typical daily functions. My morning depends on my night before. If I've gotten to bed at a reasonable time (before 10:30) I get up at 5:15, start a pot of coffee, and go downstairs for a date with my treadmill. I usually walk for 45 minutes to an hour. If I don't go to bed at a reasonable time, I sleep until 6:15. After walking (or getting up at 6:15) I shower and get dressed. I wake the kids at 6:45 and they are supposed to get up, make their beds and get dressed. It usually takes a good 15 minutes to get Andrew moving. Fix hair, breakfast. We leave the house at 7:40 to get them to school. I usually go pick up one of my child care families after I drop off my kids. If it is a preschool day I get Bethany ready to go when I get home from taking the others to school. I take her to preschool at 9:00 and pick her up at 11:00. Lunch is between 11:30 and 11:45, nap is after lunch until they wake up or until it is time to go get Abbie and Andrew from school at 3:00. What we do after school depends on what is going on that night. Some nights we have Girl Scouts, 4-H, soccer (right now in the spring we have soccer, during the winter it's basketball, dance, and wrestling, summer is swimming, blast-ball, t-ball, softball, etc...lots of activities). Supper is usually between 5:30 and 6, whenever I get it on the table. The kids have an "after-school routine" checklist that they are supposed to follow (empty backpack, empty lunch box, do chores, etc) but we are no where near perfect, so it doesn't always happen.
What kind of staples do you keep stocked in your kitchen? My family could not function (at least they don't think they could) without having peanut butter and jelly in the house. And not just one kind, we have to have crunchy for the boys and creamy for the girls. :o) We seem to run out of bread and milk all the time. My freezer always has many kinds of frozen veggies...I throw a handful of frozen veggies into just about anything...we can always use more veggies in our diet! Our fridge always has fruit, yogurt, apple sauce, cheese, hot dogs, etc...Of course chocolate is always around!
How often do you go to the grocery store? I try to do my major shopping once a month at W*l-Mart, but usually end up at the local grocery at least once a week for the above mentioned bread and milk.
Do you have a special day for running errands, or is it just when you need to? Whatever comes up I do...we try to hit the library on Friday's...but that doesn't always happen on the proper day!
Do you and your husband share any of the household tasks? I do the inside stuff, with the kids' help, and he does outside. I do trim back the roses and take care of the flowers in the planters outside...but that's about it.
What is your best organization tip? Again, like above, do it now! Don't put something down on the table or counter to be put away later, put it away now. I'm really trying to learn this! Also, write everything down in one main place...a calender, my pda, whatever, just write everything down because you KNOW you will forget...or at least that's me!
What is your favorite cleaner(s)? I love Lysol wipes. The kids use these help clean the bathroom. I also love the Lysol multi-purpose cleaner. One cleaner for just about everything, now that's what I call simple!
How do you keep track of all of your events/to do? Like I said above, I write everything down. I used to have all my lists and schedules just on the fridge, they are still there, but all the games, appointments, lessons, etc are written on the family calender and also inputted into my phone (smart phone, really a genus phone, don't know what I did without this phone!) If it is an event that is not "normal" I make sure that I have a timer go off at least the day before to remind myself. The "to do's" around the house are usually on a list that I try to accomplish, but never seem to finish.

Well, do you feel like you know me better now? I would love to read about how all of you do these things...I am always looking for inspiration on how to become/stay more organized! So, I'm going to do like the other ladies...anyone interested? Leave me a comment with a link to your post if you participate so we can all see how you do things.

Our plans...

Here's a hint about my exciting news... Don't quite know? How about this hint... We're planning a family trip! We've never taken a family vacation with just the 5 of us. Since we live so far away from family, visiting family is usually our "vacation." Which is fine, it's nice to see family...but we have never gone someplace just for fun with just our little family. We've gone and stayed in a hotel, but that is when we are traveling to/from family or at a conference for hubby's work. I know I complained a bit about Hubby being so aggressive in paying bills and putting money in savings, but now I am SOOO thankful. He put money away to pay our taxes, but we ended up owing a lot less than what we though we would. So...if we continue being frugal, we are planning on a trip to FLORIDA in the beginning of 2009. We've done some research that January is one of the least expensive and least crowded times to visit "the Mouse" so that is our plan. I did call today to find out about reserving and booking the vacation, and they won't even come out with their 2009 rates until August... :o( so we'll have to wait to make concrete plans until then, so we'll just keep saving and making our plans. I have some friends who have just gotten back, and another friend who is going this summer, so I hope I can get some great tips from them. If any of you have been there and have any tips on how to make it more fun, and more economical, please pass them along!
One thing we are doing is letting the kiddos earn what we are calling "Mickey Money" I have made a chart with each Saturday until we leave listed. Each week that they keep up with their chores and keep their room picked up, I will put a sticker on their chart and when we are getting ready to go, we will count their stickers and that is how much money they get to spend on souvenirs while we are there.
When we were talking about the trip with the kids, we explained that we would not be going out to eat all that much, and buying extra toys will probably be out of the picture for a while. And, since we will be making the trip soon after Christmas, we will probably be a bit skimpy in the gift department. Saving money for our trip is what will focus on, believe it or not they were all fine with that. Bethany even went to her room and brought her piggy bank out to the living room and asked if that money would be enough, she's been saving "ALL MY LIFE!!" :o) How precious is that?

Coughing update....

The cough. Why did it find us? My mom left a comment that she is now sick...I'm so sorry Mom! Andrew is doing some better. He hasn't had any cough syrup since Sunday. Abbigail is still suffering and sounds like she's going to gag half the time she starts coughing. She had cough syrup this morning. Bethany's cough is not as bad as Abbie's, but she has run a fever off and on since Saturday. Yesterday afternoon she started crying and saying that her ear hurt. Bethany has only had maybe 3 ear infections in her entire life, so this is not a "normal" thing for her. After she napped fitfully for less than an hour and then sat on my lap crying for another half hour, I called the doc. They could fit her in about 30 minutes later...great, just enough time to pick up the other two, drop Andrew off at home with Dad, drop Abbigail off at Girl Scouts, and make it to the doctor. Yup, ear infection. The nurse practitioner asked if she had any problems with the antibiotics she had last time, she didn't. LAST TIME. This morning, I gave her the meds while she was eating breakfast. About 30 minutes later I was trying to get her dressed and she said "My tummy hurts." And BAM...puked all over her clean clothes, the carpet, everything. So...guess who' staying home today? Of course she does this about 5 minutes before all my childcare kiddos are to arrive. As they arrive I tell them what's going on. I seriously think it's just the antibiotic, but you all know my track record for diagnosing my kids with something benign and it actually being something to watch. So...I've got 5 kids today, and one of them has already puked. I guess I'll try the antibiotic again at lunch and if she doesn't hold that one down I'll be making another call to the doc.

On another topic, we're planning something very exciting, I'll be posting about it as soon as I have a chance...how's that for suspense??? :o)

Weekend...no pictures (sorry)

What a BEAUTIFUL weekend. Friday evening Warren and Abbigail went to the lake for fishing, Andrew had soccer practice. Saturday morning was beautiful! Andrew had soccer in the morning, Abbigail had soccer in the afternoon. We were out there from 10:30 to 2:00...with a 20 minute break to run home and refill our water bottles. I was a good mom and sun screened the kids...not so much myself. My arms are rather striped. I did put some sun screen on my knees (sitting in a chair and all...LOL!) but my calves and the tops of my feet (flip-flops!) are RED! OUCH!
After the soccer games we went to the city to go shopping. The preschool I will be working at this fall had a dinner today after church to thank the retiring director and introduce me as the new director. It was a dinner to raise money for the financial assistance program. We are committed to making sure that preschool doesn't become an elitist thing here in town. We want EVERY child to be able to attend. We always offer financial assistance to families that need it. Anyway...I wanted a new dress for the occasion. I've gotten new clothes, but not a dress since Bethany was born. I fell in love with three. One was a red/white floral pattern type thing that was a sun dress with a "twirly skirt"...I loved that dress, but with my red/white stripey arms right now I decided that it wasn't the one for me...right NOW. I ended up with a green, white, black geometric pattern skirt that has a green jacket top. I also got a black tank to wear under the jacket. I do love this one, too. However, with Hubby's prompting...I've decided that if I continue to loose weight, I will go get that dress in 20 pounds! (BTW...I have made it back to my treadmill...will continue and update my mileage total soon).
The dinner was a HUGE success...lots more people than we had planned on, we even ran out of food. Oops.
I spent the afternoon sewing two baby slings. One for a friend whose nephew just became a daddy, and the other one for Nate and Tricia. Tricia is doing great and Gwyneth just continues to grow and grow. I want to get this sling to them so they can start snuggling with her now...get themselves and her used to the sling. So I need to get that one finished off tomorrow.

I still have not gotten the pictures off my camera from the past few weeks...I know, BAD BLOGGING MOMMA! Maybe I'll get that done tomorrow...I'll try.

Sleep well my friends-
A

Mother of the year award...

Where is it?? It's mine for sure!
Ok, Andrew's cough that I just KNEW was asthma. I argued with the nurse, defended his health to his teacher, defended him to my child care parents...well, Bethany is now coughing. I could blame hers on asthma...Abbigail is now coughing...She DOES NOT have asthma. I think I'm going to have to take the kiddos to school in the morning and beg forgiveness from the nurse. Hat in hand...um gee..I don't know what to say.

Hey, add the daughter of the year award while we're at it. My Mom and Dad called the other night after reading my last post...I totally didn't mean to hurt their feelings or imply that it was their fault Andrew was having problems with his asthma. Don't worry Mom and
Dad...we WILL come visit every chance we get, if you'll still have us. We love you guys, that's what's most important. You guys are the best grandparents ever...the kids love you so much, and I kinda like you, too.
Sorry, I couldn't post such a downer post without at least adding a cute picture. This was at the zoo during spring break.

Asthma....

I have asthma. Andrew has asthma. Bethany has asthma. Andrew's asthma seems to get very worked up every time we go visit my parents. Different allergens that his lungs simply aren't used to and can't handle at this point. He seems to get sick almost every time we go there. I remember when I was a child, always getting sick when we went to visit my grandparents on the farm. The hay, dust, etc were/are my triggers. Andrew did have something else bugging him this weekend because he ran a fever off and on Saturday and Sunday. But no fever since Sunday. There was no school on Monday, so that is the day we traveled back home. Tuesday morning and he was still coughing to beat the band so I did keep him home from school that day, though he played most of the day and didn't act all that sick. Wednesday morning I sent him to school. I talked to the school nurse and she was going to give him his cough meds at lunch time. I also wrote a note to his teacher that asked that they encourage him to NOT RUN during gym and recess. I dropped him off at 7:45. All the students meet in the gym and stay there for their "Morning meeting" with the principal (at 8:00), she basically announces if there is anything special going on that day, they say the Pledge of Allegiance, etc... Then the Kindergarten classes go across the playground and yard to their building. Apparently Andrew was walking slower than his class and ran to catch up...guess what...ASTHMA and coughing. Lots of coughing. So much coughing in fact that his teacher said she couldn't teach over him. He had been in class for all of 15 minutes, coughing to beat the band, so they called and I had to go get him.
Yes, he is coughing. Yes, it gets REALLY bad when he runs around (that is why I warned them and asked that they remind him not to run...he ran, that was his mistake). But my question is...are asthmatics not allowed to come to school? If I keep him home every time he is having difficulties with his asthma he will be home for weeks at a time. Asthma is not contagious. No one is going to catch a cough from him. As long as we keep on top of him and don't let him get rowdy or run, he'll be fine. Yes, he will cough, but it will be under control. I even asked the nurse today when I took him in if she could suggest any stronger cough medication, she said only if we went to the doctor and they would prescribe a cough syrup with codeine...but that is for people with pneumonia, not asthma. So what am I supposed to do? I can't be there every second of the day to make sure he doesn't run. He'll learn as he gets older that his lungs just can't handle it. Any advice out there? Bethany's asthma doesn't seem to affect her nearly as much as Andrew's affects him. I'm just hoping and praying that they let him stay at school today!
Thanks for letting me rant...I just don't know what I'm supposed to do.

I'm VISITING!

With the cold rainy weather this week, Andrew and Abbigail's soccer practices (Friday night) and soccer games (Saturday) were canceled. The kiddos don't have school on Monday...so...we went/came visiting! We are currently at my parents home. The kiddos are all fast asleep (or should be soon!). We have had a fun day playing with my nieces, Ella and Ava. Hubby couldn't come...something about being a pastor and having to work! :o) He also hurt his back on Friday while working out. Pulled a few ribs out of place, boy was he in pain! He went to the chiropractor. He is feeling some better, but not a lot. Prayers for his comfort and healing are greatly appreciated.
This evening for dinner, Mom made spaghetti, and I (of course) offered my ooey gooey cheesey bread! One thing about my kiddos...whenever we eat spaghetti, we have a "topless" dinner. The kiddos all take off their shirts so we don't run the risk of staining them! So...all the kiddos took off their shirts. We had 4 little girls and one little guy eating "naked" for supper. (Can't wait to see how many hits off of google I get for those few sentences!) I haven't even taken one picture (I know...BAD blogging momma!) but hope to remedy that tomorrow. I'll post an update (hopefully with pics) on Monday or Tuesday.

Hope everyone has a blessed weekend!

Oh, and by the way, thanks for all the comments on the last post!! :o)

I just added this pic because I know blog posts are always better with pictures...and I don't have a lot of my pictures on this new puter!

Comment about Comments (and other stuff)...

Sorry Loni, you had that Title up for so long, it stuck in my head and now that I want to write a post about comments, I couldn't come up with anything better! :o)
Ok, I've had NO COMMENTS for a while now, so I'm guessing some of you are having trouble with the new word verification thingy. Here's the deal. You write your comment, like usual. You can still comment "anonymously" but under the comment box will be a box with a bunch of scrambled wavy letters. Below that will be an empty box. You type in the letters that are jumbled, exactly in the same order...then you post your comment. Simple really...NOW LEAVE ME SOME LOVE!! PLEASE!! I mean, really...I posted the ADORABLE videos of my girl's dance recital have have received exactly 0 comments about how disgustingly adorable my girlies are...COME ON!!! How can you watch those cuties and NOT comment?????

I've had better days since Monday. I don't think Bethany is angry with me anymore. We were talking about how next year I'll take her to child care before I take the other kids to school, then I'll go to preschool. Every time we get in the car now she asks if she gets to go to child care now.

Little "H", one of my child care boys (23 months old) now plays a little game with my girls when we are in the car. They sing "Where are we going?" (Clap, clap, clap...think Dora!) and he yells "Annie's house!" Annie is his version of "Andie"...so adorable!

I need to get Bethany to preschool, I'll add more later!

Tough day...

This working mom thing is hard.
This morning, the other teachers at the preschool and I loaded up and went to another preschool to observe how they do things. I got the children all up and fed breakfast. I took the older two to school, and then I met the other teachers. Today was Hubby's day off, so he stayed with Bethany. We were gone all morning, and I got home just in time to get Bethany down for a nap. I spent most of nap time working on paperwork for the preschool. Just as Bethany woke up I was leaving to run a few errands and pick the older two up from school. She was not quite awake yet, and chose to stay home with daddy. I came home to drop Andrew off (Abbie went to girl scouts). I had about 10 minutes before I had to leave to go to a preschool boar
d meeting. Bethany grabbed my hand and started to cry. "Mommy, please don't leave me. I love you. I want you." Oh my sweet baby...I love you. I want you, too! So, I sat on the couch and snuggled with her as long as I possibly could before leaving for my meeting which lasted almost 2 hours. I had tears in my eyes as I drove to the meeting. I feel bad for being gone so much today. But next year, she'll be with me most of the day (she'll be at a sitter's in the morning 3 mornings a week, but at school with me in the afternoons). It was a hard day, I am not used to this. Hopefully this won't happen on a regular basis where I'm gone for two things in one day...but occasionally it will. I'm just thankful that she got to stay home with Daddy today.
Then, this evening, she was fighting with her brother (big surprise, those two are like oil and water...they DO NOT MIX!), and wouldn't listen to me. What did I do? Did I patiently get down on her level and explain what she needed to do? NO! I YELLED! I SCREAMED! I pretty-much turned into a two-year old throwing a tantrum! I told her to shut her mouth and listen to ME! I was Monster-Mom...I HATE MONSTER-Mom!! I hate even more that I turn into that sometimes! I'm so sorry baby. Mommy loves you more than anything...I'm sorry I lost my temper. I hate that the short time I was able to be home today turned out so poorly.
I will try harder tomorrow. I will spend as much time with you as I can. I will hug you a lot! I will read stories to you. I will tickle you. I will whisper "I love you" into your sweet neck. I will not let Monster-Mom come back, and if she comes knocking, I'll politely tell her to go away!

My headache seems to be coming and going. Sometimes it's really bad, and other times I feel pretty much normal. I think it's mostly sinuses now, with just a bit of a tension headache thrown in for good measure. Thanks for the advise and prayers...I appreciate them all!

Abbie's Dance

Here is one of Abbigail's dances...she's the short one in the pink! Yep, the first one on stage, and little one at the end. Isn't she a cutie...and again, Hubby was running the video camera. (now that we know how to do this, we need to get one of Andrew's wrestling matches up!)

Prayers please...

My dear friend Julie has suffered a loss today. Julie is pregnant with her second child. She is going to deliver her baby in about 4 weeks. She and her sister were so excited to be pregnant at the same time. Sadly, her sister discovered on Thursday during a routine ultrasound that something was possibly wrong with her baby. The doctor ordered an amnio to see if they could determine the problem. When she came back to the doctor today to find out the results, they did another ultrasound and discovered that sometime between Thursday and today the baby boy had died. She was induced and gave birth to the little guy they have named Luke. Luke could have never survived in this world with the body that was developing.
Why does God allow this? Why do innocent babies and children have to suffer. Why does He give loving mothers and fathers a child only long enough for them to fall in love, and then they are gone. I do not know the answers to these questions, I can only pray that God gives the entire family comfort and peace during this difficult and sad time. I pray that Julie will stay healthy and that her child will be born safely in May. I pray that the new child will not sadden the family by reminding them all of Luke, but bring joy and happiness...hope for the future.
Please pray for Julie, her sister, and the entire family grieving the loss of little Luke.
Thank you.

Dance Videos

Ok, be patient with me...I'm trying to figure out how to embed video...This is one of Bethany's dances from the recital (Hubby was manning the camera). Bethany is the third from the left. The curly headed girl next to her is our neighbor.
I'll try to get Hubby to upload a video of Abbie soon!

Memu plan Monday

Tomorrow is another BUSY day...I'm going to do a preschool observation to help with my certification. So...if I'm going to do a weekly meal plan, I'd better do it now!

Monday: Busy night with meetings...leftover buffet!

Tuesday: Chicken pot pie

Wednesday: Hubby at LYF, kiddos and I will raid the fridge

Thursday: Spaghetti and ooie-goooie cheesy bread

Friday: Date night? Girls night out? If not, I'm going to make it an "at-home date night" and fix steak and baked potato for Warren and I...kiddos will enjoy something equally yummy to the kiddos palate...either mac-n-cheese or hot dogs.

This week's weather looks to be cool and rainy...if any nights prove beautiful, we'll head to the lake for fishing, grilling out, fresh air, and fun...so any of these nights might be vetoed in favor of hamburgers!

March in review....

Marching through march...the third month of the year, and how are my goals going? I'm so glad you've asked! Well...let me tell you.
  • Walking...not so much. I did walk, but not as much as I have done in the past, nor as much as I had hoped. I got out of my routine during spring break, and never seemed to get back on it. However...I have lost 13...yes, 13 pounds!!! since January. I went out to buy a pair of shorts for the summer, and tried on (ok, I'm being transparent here...please be kind) my usual size 18, and it almost fell off!!! So, I put them back and got a size 16. Turns out I should have gotten a size 14, because two weeks later these are getting almost too loose...better go get that belt out!
  • Home-cooked meals...yep, done that! Meal planning really has helped! I have also been looking at the sales adds more and planning meals around what is on sale and what I already have in the freezer. We've eaten out less (for supper anyway! Warren and I have made trips to the "city" on two Mondays so he can visit people in the hospital, and we've ended up going out to lunch each day).
  • Bible reading...not so great. I read the passion story several times during Lent and Holy week, but not walking on the treadmill has killed two birds that I didn't want to die!
  • Watching our spending has had a bit of trouble this month...going to the city where the shopping opportunities are is not good on the pocketbook! I cannot seem to get out of W*l-Mart for less than $50...If we go back, I've GOT to stick to my list!!!! We also made the purchase of this pretty little 'puter that I'm currently typing on. We have 6 months to pay...and we WILL get it done! We are also talking about what to pay off next...things are getting under control and I'm so proud of us!!
Lots of improvements...lots of room for improvement!

Linkage

I have been reading a blog written by a pastor in North Carolina. He is the father of Nate (the husband I have been asking for prayers about)...anyway, Rick has a series on his blog about pastoring and pastor's families. One post was "What you might not know about your pastor." The second one in the series was "What you might not know about your pastor's wife." The last in the series is "What you might not know about your pastor's kids."
For those of you in the ministry (or married to it!), these essays will hit you in the heart. It is so comforting to read someone who knows how you feel. Someone who knows the hurts and joys of being in the ministry of God's people. For those of you who aren't in the ministry, but are in the church, it will give you insight into your pastor and his family. It will give suggestions on how to relate to and support your pastor, and his family.
Now, how do you go about getting everyone in church to read a blog?? ;O)

By the way...Tricia is up and walking without any support...no vent or oxygen...for the first time since October! Rick is posting updates so Nate can take a short blogging break to be there for his "girls." Go on over and see how they are doing...

(For those who might not know how a "link" works...click on the underlined words above and it will take you directly to the site...:o))

How do you get rid of a headache?

Anyone have any great ideas? I've had a headache since Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm now up to taking 2 extra-strength "tyl*nol" I every 4 or 5 hours, and they don't seem to be doing very much. Usually a good night's sleep make even my worst head aches go away...but my head hurts so much that I can't even sleep. I toss and turn and moan and groan. I even taught myself how to turn the brightness down on my computer screen because the bright light hurts my eyes/head. Is it sinuses? Is it allergy related? I don't know. I know that tomorrow I am going to take my allergy medication and see if that helps. For now, I'm going to try to go to bed and get some sleep...hopefully this awful headache will go away SOON! If anyone else has any advice or knows any tricks, please leave me a comment!!!

Everyone is healthy, finally (I think!?!)

Yesterday was Hubby's birthday. The youth group and I planned a surprise party for him. They always have frozen pizza's for dinner at LYF, I encouraged Warren to splurge and get Pizza Hut for his birthday. I also made a "giant cupcake" (THANKS Louann for the mold, it's so fun!) for him to take to LYF, mainly to throw him off. The teens were going to arrive early to decorate, and also pick up an ice cream cake I had ordered the day before. The plan was for Warren to leave to go pick up the pizza, and the kids and I would high-tail it up to church, so we all could surprise him...it didn't happen that way. Since the kids were all sick, Warren went up to pick up the pizza's and brought one home for us (thanks babe!). Then he went up to church for the youth group, and they did surprise him. We wish we could have been there to celebrate with him, but I guess it just wasn't to be this year. Hopefully they got some pictures that I can share with you all soon!

By the time bedtime rolled around last night, the kids were all feeling better, no fevers!! Andrew said that his throat was sore, but this morning it was better...so off to school they all went!!! :o) I have had a headache all day, I hope I'm not coming down with what they all have had....I'm going to blame it on not sleeping well...I couldn't sleep because my mind was on Nate and Tricia, and her new lungs! What an amazing couple they are! Gwyneth is growing and growing, and hopefully soon Tricia will be able to WALK into Gwyneth's NICU room and TALK to her baby! I can't wait for the day we hear the stories about them all three going home together!

This weekend looks to be pretty busy. Tonight Abbie has her last dance class. She was supposed to go strait to her first soccer practice after dance, but it's raining today, so no soccer! We have a playground open-house/unveiling/naming thing (at the preschool I am directing next year) this evening. And then we will be going to Andrew's wrestling awards banquet. Tomorrow both Abbie and Andrew have their first soccer practice and I am helping to set up for the girls' dance recital. Andrew's first soccer game is Saturday morning. Abbie will miss her first soccer game which is Saturday afternoon because she and Bethany have dress rehearsal for their dance recital on Sunday. After the dance recital on Sunday I plan on coming home for a LONG nap! :o)

Tricia is out of surgery, and in the ICU

Tricia's surgery to transplant two donated lungs into her body was a success. The doctors reported that the surgery was more difficult than normal (how can a double lung transplant be normal??) because her disease is so progressed. She is now in the ICU, getting used to her new lungs. She is still ventilated and sedated...hopefully both of these will be "undone" soon. Keep the prayers coming, she still has a long road to go!

PRAYERS PLEASE!!!

Tricia is in surgery. Come on, you know Tricia...of Nate and Tricia...Gwyneth's mom...:o)
The transplant team came in mid-morning and told Nate and Tricia that they were heading out to check out another pair of lungs, and this one MATCHES! She is in the OR right now. The surgery will last between 7-9 hours, so it will be a LONG night for them all.
BTW...today is Nate's birthday, he shares it with my Hubby...what a great b-day present!

AAAHHHHH!

Just got the kids to bed. Kissed them all good night...guess who's running a fever??? ABBIGAIL! I kissed her and thought, Oh, my, she's warm. I asked her how she was feeling, she said her head hurts. Yup...that's about right. Tylenol, a drink, and good night....we'll see how she is in the morning. I'm planning on having all my kiddos home for hubby's birthday. Sigh.....At least it's nothing serious.

Just a few things...

Just a few things to update ya'll on my life....
  • Andrew has the fever thing. The school nurse called at 10:30 and I went to get him. He's just been laying around all day. He ate about 1/2 of a PB&J earlier, but nothing else. H (one of my childcare kiddos) had it yesterday.
  • E (H's baby sister) started getting "spotted" today. By the time her mom picked her up, she looked a little bit like a dalmatian! Mom took her to the health dept, who sent her on to the doctors. Turns out she probably is having a delayed allergic reaction to the amoxacillen she took last week. She seems to feel fine, just looks really pitiful. Poor baby...she was still all smiles!
  • Bethany is all healthy again...rotten as usual!
  • Abbigail rode home on the bus with a friend. Abbie was not only excited to go to her friend's house to play, but I think she was just as excited abut riding the bus. Oh the joys of a child!
  • If you are a "commenter"...THANK YOU! Thanks for leaving me little notes, it really brightens up my day. I'm sorry to have to do this, but I've had to enable the word verification thingy because I've started getting "spam comments." Hopefully this will put an end to the fake comments that either lead to a site to purchase something, or one was a L-O-N-G diatribe about the "gods of the world" and how they are disappointed with how we humans are messing it up...HUH?? Ok, these are not my beliefs, so if you see something like this, please ignore it! I haven't figured out how to delete these comments, I know there is a way, just haven't figured it out yet.
  • I was denied by the state as not being qualified to be the director of the preschool for next year. The forms I filled out just asked for a listing of the previous teaching experiences , but apparently I need a letter from each of the schools with a ton of information. So I spent the morning on the phone calling all the places I have taught. Two of the schools I taught at (8 & 10 years ago) have no one working there who was there when I was there. Hopefully they still have records that have my information! One of the schools (in Leavenworth, KS) still has a lot of the same people. When my friend, Kathleen, answered the phone I was so excited! I said "Hey, I know that voice!" and she said "Hey, I know your voice...AND I have caller ID! Hi Andie!" We spent a while chatting. It was so good to talk to her!

I need to close this up, I have three kiddos that need to get to bed...one whiny, cranky, girl...one girl in a good mood, and a sicky boy. Night all!
