Marriage Monday

This week, Christine, at Fruit in Season, wants us to focus on supporting and encouraging our husband in their line of work. This should be easy for me...my hubby is a pastor. What more honorable vocation exists? But do I honor him and encourage him? Not all the time. He is a great pastor, with great goals for our congregation. But sometimes I make him feel guilty for spending so much time working. I feel abandoned when he has meetings and can't be with me to help with the kids, or go to a game. Instead of being upset, I should be proud. He's working for God! He's teaching people about the Grace and the gift that God gave us. He's an instrument of the Holy Spirit...it's not like he's sitting around watching TV or ignoring our family.
I love him so much, and I am so proud of him and the job he does. He is a wonderful pastor, the people really like him, too. I need to make an effort to listen to the sermons more...I joke that I haven't heard a sermon for 7 years (since our first was born)...but that is almost true. I try to keep the kiddos quiet so they don't disturb others around us, but I don't pay much attention because I'm so involved with them. I need to ask hubby for a written copy of the sermon, so I can follow along, or read it after church if I am unable to REALLY listen.
So... I will continue to work on my goals for the last week, but I will also add a few new goals.
1. I will encourage him in his vocation...and be so grateful that he can come home during the day, even if he's unable to be home in the evening.
2. I will try make our home a warm, relaxing environment to come home to. In order to do this, I need to clean up! It doesn't feel very relaxing right now, it is too cluttered! I need to get off the blogs and get to the house.
Well...here goes another week! Blessings to all of you and your marriages.
Andie

To my wonderful daughter - I too admire you goals. They would make any marriage better and being married to a pastor does have some unique challenges. I can't really imagine what it would have been like if you dad had pursued this ministry years ago - but in a way he did. Remember all the time spent in youth ministry!! You and Aaron were a part of the group way before your time. Maybe that was part of the reason, the youth group was a little more difficult for Aaron. I always blamed those challenging years on our struggles with Carolyn Nicholes. (Was that her first name?) Anyway - we were in ministry then, just in a little different way.

Well - blessings on your evening, and I am praying that you are feeling much better.

Much love, Mom

I love seeing your mom's comment here!

Great goals this week. It is a challenge dealing with the schedule of a pastor. While my hubby is not one, we are both in music ministry and know what goes into pastor-hood.

Blessings to you as you support and honor your hubby this week!
